THE JOURNEY
It all started with a nasty contained onboard fuel spill on my boat, and I felt sure there must be a way other than using the traditional Oil-Zorbs & vacuuming to eliminate the fuel and smell.
Microbes, enzymes, detergents, dispersants, and solvents all have a negative result with toxins in other forms. It is also illegal in some instances where the EPA will double fine if there’s evidence of concealment. I spotted a poster on a cruising boat forum discussion which only contained four words:
De-Oil-it, it’s the best.
I never heard of De-Oil-It, but thanks to a Google search I found it quickly. I purchased a spray bottle and one gallon to remedy the fuel spill in my boat. The results were instant. Gone was the smell, and any appearance of diesel fuel. I collected the bilge water and disposed of it as I would have for contaminated water. I then used De-Oil-It on diesel fuel in bilge water and then tested the clean bilge water with an Oil-Zorb. There was absolutely no evidence of contamination. The bilge water beaded up on the hydrophobic Oil-Zorb with zero absorption. It was simply amazing!
Hydrocarbons are neutralized permanently, and the waste can be introduced into the natural environment with no harm to plant or animal life. De-Oil-It is on the EPA National Contingency Plan list for oil spills as a surface washing agent.
